PG Strike: Complete~!
So I finally managed to complete my first Perfect Grade model kit (please don’t make it the last, Bandai!!!). It definitely has a lot of pieces and the detail is excellent! I’ve yet to put a battery in its head and make it light up. I’m also considering doing the USB option that Danny demonstrated in his blog.
Apologies for the bad quality of the pics. I really should save up for an SLR!
For the chest part, I used a different mix of colors. I had dark mica blue and racing blue. The dark mica blue was from the paint I used to build the MG Strike + IWSP. After covering the blue pieces with dark blue, I sprayed racing blue over it. Racing blue is like really bright blue paint with the glossy-glitter effect. But since the underlying color is already dark, the racing blue paint only made the dark colors mildly brighter plus the shiny effect looked excellent…well at least from my perspective. You can’t really see the effect in the pics but I’m hoping I can take this model kit outside and shoot it in the sun. For the gray parts, I colored them with matte black first before putting German gray. Turned out shadowed and nice.

How big is that thing? Looks 2 feet tall! Anywho, looks awesome, very detailed down to the fine lines. If the U.S. Army had armor that looked like that instead of the usual camo fatigues, I’d enlist in a heartbeat.
Hehe. But one very sad thing about this kit is that despite it looking awesome in detail and build, it has ugly stickers instead of dry tranfer decals…
So sad…
That looks fantastic, dude. Great job. It’s really too bad I don’t have the time or money to pursue modeling anymore.
[...] model kit. But after surfing the net and seeing the PG Strike all over the place, like here and here, I couldn’t stop myself from having to get it…of course I would have to build it [...]
how many cans of top coat do you need to cover that all that paint?
I didn’t use Top Coat. I used a large can of Mr. Super Clear. Plus, I didn’t lay it thick. I just sprayed it evenly across all parts before putting the armor onto the frame.
did you put the mr clean layer after you completed the models and put the parts together? The problem for me is that I put top coat on the parts before I assembled and some parts are too tight or is hard to fit together due to the extra later or paint and top coat.
I put a small layer prior to putting the armor onto the frame and then another layer after putting everything together.
I got a question about spraying the fingers of the PG strike, did u have to spray the hands twice to cover all the gaps in the fingers?
What i am basically concerned about is:
If you spray the hands when they are flat and spread out and then later you clutch the hands to a fist, will the fist have some parts unpainted or would the paint have covered the whole hand and all the gaps?
Thanks!
Well, the paint I used is German gray which is quite close to the actual color of the plastic so the difference is not that noticeable. But then if you were to use matte black, then it is possible to have some areas of the joints to be unpainted.
