Update: I managed to beat Shin Myogi and Akagi today. Interestingly enough, you can actually set the difficulty of the game through your own card settings. I guess that’s why it’s easy to Akagi. Or perhaps Legend of the Street is easy to beat to begin with. I’m not really sure. As much as I would love to read more about the game system, it’s all in Japanese and I’m not sure or perhaps I’m just too lazy to look for an alternate IDAS4 English site.
My brother is the one into cars although I can still manage to talk at length about them. First, it was Top Gear and then Initial D Arcade Stage 3. Then there was Midnight Max Tune 2. And now, he was able to have a petrolhead demon possess my poor body and has gotten me into Initial D Arcade Stage 4. I am now once again Frost, the driver.
Initial D Arcade Stage 4 is the latest installment in the this popular driving manga/anime’s series of video games. Practically everything about is new. The arcade unit is new. The physics engine is new. Even the card is new! Sad to say, my first pick for a car to drive failed. I got a Skyline GT-R BNR34 II Nur. It’s the car that God Foot drove in the last leg of Initial D 4th Stage. And then when I was finally behind the wheel, I remembered I didn’t like 6-gear cars in this arcade game because the 6th gear ended up being pretty useless for most of the time with my amateur driving skills. Either that or the car itself doesn’t like me. So instead, I added a new car to my garage: a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV. Five gears. Relatively good acceleration. 4WD. Me likey. I like it so much, I’m wearing the IC card like an identification card on a lanyard. What a dork. I know.
Did you ever play any arcade games that had card systems in them so that you could save your progress?

It would be pretty much unfair to us here as in Japan you’ll be really inside the car while you play this game..

Yeah, I’ve seen this picture. There’s even one with Keisuke’s FD. Nevertheless, I don’t really see the need to have those space-eating cars in the arcade. I know it adds to the experience but it’s just a game. The look of the car you’re in doesn’t count to how you drive it in the game itself.
Well it actually adds a lot of stuff..
Like:
• You can always have a backseat driver..
• your girlfriend beside you..
• Have a friend scream like Itsuki..
