3.90 M33 Released! + How-To-Update

Important: Before anything else, please do not try to install this update on your PSP if you’re running on official firmware.
I’ve been getting comments left and right about how to convert from Official Firmware to Custom Firmware. These aren’t the steps for that. Please visit Consolespot.net or use Google to find your answers for downgrading. I myself don’t own a Pandora’s battery so I don’t know how to go about doing it. Again, I remind you that this update will NOT WORK ON OFFICIAL FIRMWARE.
Dark~AleX is at it again and has just released a new CFW just a couple of days after Sony has released the original version of the 3.90 Firmware. Here’s DAX’s changelog:
3.90 M33
——–
Requeriments:- Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher.Instructions- Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the 3.90 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name “390.PBP”.
Alternatively, you can let the installer to download for you via wifi.
- Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.

Changes:

- 3.80 -> 3.90
- March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

Changes in updater:

- The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
- Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi.
Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case,
reinit the installer.
- L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery.
If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see “Veryfing 390.PBP”.
If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until
you see the previous sentence.

You can get your 3.90 official eboot here.
I’ve been looking at threads in Consolespot.net regarding this update and there appears to be no rush to convert to this one unless you own a Slim and you’re VERY EXCITED about Skype which I don’t even use to begin with. So if you really need your Skype fix, then convert to this one. No bugs reported on the said thread so far but problems arise more on the network update that DAX has incorporated on his CFW. I’m sticking to my 3.80 M33-5 though.
Again, the instructions are pretty simple. Custom Firmware is firmware developed by third-party coders based on the official firmware developed by Sony. Official Firmware is the firmware that comes with your PSP. To check if you’re running CFW or OFW, go to System Settings on your XMB and open System Information. If your firmware does not say 3.XX M33-X, then you’re not on Custom Firmware and you cannot install this update. You will have to undergo a different procedure for this. Google’s the best place to find a solution. Or go to Consolespot.net.
Here’s a list of your requirements:
  1. PSP Phat or Slim on 3.52 M33-3 or higher (if your custom firmware isn’t any higher than this, have someone who has access to a Pandora’s battery do it for you. If you’re from the Philippines and you’re interested, I can refer you to someone in Greenhills. Just send me an email and I’ll send you his contact details.)
  2. 100% charged battery
  3. USB cable (I think it’s the 5-point cable)
  4. 3.90 official EBOOT from Sony
  5. 3.90 M33  EBOOT from Dark~AleX’s website
Here are the steps to convert your CFW to 3.90 M33:
  1. Extract the UPDATE folder and put it in your PC
  2. Download the official 3.90 M33 EBOOT and rename it “390.PBP” (for those downloading the zip file from the link above, the official eboot has already been renamed)
  3. Go to Recovery mode and revert your kernel to 3.XX where X is the custom firmware you’re currently on. Example, if you’re using 3.71 M33-4 and you set your kernel to 1.50, it won’t upgrade unless you set it back to 3.71 kernel.
  4. Paste the 390.PBP inside the UPDATE folder containing EBOOT.PBP
  5. Go into USB Mode
  6. Paste the entire UPDATE folder in ms0:\PSP\GAME
  7.  Exit USB Mode and go to your Game menu on your XMB
  8. Run the 3.90 M33 app
  9. Follow the instructions prompted by the installer
That should safely install the 3.90 M33 onto your PSP. This isn’t the Wi-Fi network update version. I claim no responsibility if you end up bricking your PSP after trying to install 3.90 M33 on your PSP. Please make sure you fulfill all the requirements I posted above.
Cheers!

  2. IMPORTANT: the ofw eboot (390.pbp) is incorrect. IT IS WAY TO SMALL TO BE A UPDATE and also the psp says it is “incorrect format” or something. ALSO your LINK to the “3.90 official eboot” is messed up too. please update this post so others wont mess up… HERES A WORKING LINK TO 3.90 official eboot
