Durability: PSP Phat vs PSP Slim

I currently own a PSP Slim (piano black). My two brothers own a slim as well. But recently, one of the PSPs suffered from mobo damage (motherboard). Could it be because the PSP Slim isn’t as sturdy as the Phat? My brother claims he never dropped his PSP. And yet having brought it to a technician, the guy said that this usually results from the PSP having been dropped or heavily sat on. I’m assuming my brother dropped his.
So could this be the drawback for having a slimmer frame for the PSP? I have heard a lot of stories about Phat owners having dropped their PSPs more than once and rarely had any mobo problems like small pixel lines appearing across their video files or on the screen itself.
Now, I’m actually considering getting a PSP Phat just to see the difference (and also to have a back-up unit in case the Slim gets f*cked up for some reason). Yes, the Slim has faster memory and a larger hard drive space for the firmware but for materials of construction, it appears that Sony didn’t use similar frame material for the Slim. Indeed, it’s significantly lighter than the Phat but it appears that longevity-wise, the Phat trumps the Slim by a mile.
How about you? What kind of PSP do you own? Phat or Slim?

I own a 1st-gen PSP Phat, and so far it’s been good to me after being abused by myself and my nephews. Well, apart from the known issue of dead-pixels with 1st-gens, my PSP has been very “drop tested” for QA.
Just a quick note: The psp doesnt have a hard drive, What they did was add more ram. Just so u know.
Yo i tried to update my psp to version 3.90m33 hackers edtion and it needs 25mb to update so i bought it a 1gb memory stick and it has not read the memory stick so i bought it a 32mb and it didn’t read it but it read the 32mb for like 2sec. What should i do?

well ive had a psp phat for about 1 year and 3 months now and ive have dropped it so many times ive lost count. ive droped so hard dat the battery came out and the memstick. scratches r everwhere but it worksperfectly aside from the broken power switch. i cant believe da srcreen didnt brake im suprised
@Quick Comment
Doesn’t the PSP Slim have a bigger internal memory? Phats seem to be the first ones to run out of flash0 space whenever someone flashes a custom XMB into the PSP.
@BIGAL”S
You need to free up more space inside your PSP, not your memory stick. I believe some resolved this problem by deleting their DIC folder. Are you using a custom XMB?
@Righteously Insane
The PSP Slim does in fact have twice as much RAM as the PSP Phat. flash memory has nothing to do with it (that i know of). And no, there is NO hard drive in ANY release of the PSP.
i have a slim and dropped it a couple of times and it stll works good. I dropped in the cement b/c i was playing and it fell out of my pocket on the cement.
Patman
And yet it does have some internal data storage that can be accessed as a hard drive…
I dropped PSP Slim (like 10 mins ago) accidentally and the battery fell out, the back pannel fell off (which I’m attempting to put back on) and It refused to turn on until i charged the battery as if it had lots its full charge when it fell. Hopefully I will be able to get it put together again before long :3 No screen damage. First time dropping it, don’t really wanna do it again xD
@Patman
The internal storage wouldn’t be a hard drive as its Flash ROM. with Homebrew (or any other firmware) it becomes a Flash Drive.
now i thinking with is better… the slim or phat psp?
*which i mean (sorry)
I’ve read that they took out a frame inside the fat when resigning the slim. the frame was supposed to reduce shocks from drops. hmmmm.
the fat has been good to me. i just wish there was a tv out for this.
slim rocks i smashed my psp fat i put it under my bike and i ran over it.
fat rocks joking slim is the best i got star wars
i have both (slim & phat) with cfw on both, slim looks cooler but for some reason i use the phat the most
My daughter and nephew both have PSP Phat. They have dropped both of theirs a couple of times. They haven’t had them long. One for 3 months and one for 6 months. Both times they dropped them, the battery door broke its plastic inserts to stay on. Now I have to order replacements. Are there any METAL doors? Thanks!
can i ask something i’m new with this.. whats the difference between the phat and slim.. can someone tell me the specification of the two.. thxx a lot
