MG RX-78-2 ver. 2.0

I used to have big misgivings about this redesign of the old, old RX-78-2 design that was the first master grade model kit ever released. I didn’t like the face. I didn’t like the lack in detail on the shoulders. I didn’t like the feet. In short, I didn’t like it (didn’t think I was leading up to that eh?).

And then I saw the photos.

What I would like to do is buy this model kit, the Gundam ver. OYW TV colors and the Gundam ver. Ka and have them stand side by side. That would look awesome!

After seeing these photos, has anyone previously not purchasing this model kit now want to buy it?

Personally, I’m also interested in how Keita’s going to remodel this baby.

These photos were from the Shizuoka Hobby Festival and were taken from SRWHotnews.

  1. I don’t think Keita’s going to do this one. He just finished bashing one into the freedom frame not too long ago.

  2. Well, we’ll never really know. What if he makes an Evolution version of this?

  3. why would anyone want to buy this? It looks rubbish, lacks panel lines etc, and its sucks in details compared to O.Y.W or Ver. Ka.

Seriously have you lost your minds?

  4. I used to think the same thing. But once I saw the inner frame, the hands, the flexibility and everything else, it was something that could sit at par with the OYW and ver. Ka. This kit was meant to mirror what the RX-78-2 LOOKED LIKE when it first came out in the anime and most likely how it looked in the manga BEFORE the anime. So it’s SUPPOSED to look old school and not something shiny, new and snazzy like the ver Ka and the ver OYW. Props to Bandai for putting in new stuff under the shell: significantly increased flexibility similar to the Zaku II ver. 2.0, jointed fingers, flexing feet, a more detailed Core Fighter design, sturdier inner frame (as it appears to be so).

I have not lost my mind. I’m seriously saying that for any decent Gundam fan and collector, this is definitely a must-have.

  5. your the man! these photos just gave me sort of motivation to collect all MG versions of the RX-78 gundam!

Glad to know that the entry helped convince you that this kit is more than a fairly decent Gundam.

  8. err… i think the old-style design resemble the design of the RX-78-2 it self… and i t’s a good idea to take this newest model of RX-78-2.. hope that Bandai will make the guntank also…

  9. @Khofia

The version 2.0 is based on the first MG design which in turn is based on the look of the RX-78-2 in the animated series.

    Yes, they’re actually re-releasing a Guntank ver. 2.0.
