Gurren Lagann and Lazengann GET!

As I mentioned in my previous post and as presented by Nendoroid Miku Hatsune, I’ve just received a Revoltech Gurren Lagann and Lazengann! At my office no less! I couldn’t wait till I got home so I opened up, took pictures and am posting what I can say about them right here right now! Let’s start with Lord Genome’s kickassawesometastic unit, the Lazengann.

Whos your daddy?!

Who's your daddy?!

The Lazengann in the series had a structure similar to Evangelion which isn’t much of a surprise given that both were produced by the same studio: Gainax. It did awesome kung fu moves and basically kicked Gurren Lagann’s ass had it not been lacking in GL’s forte: Super Robot Spirit.

Comes with those long drills. Didnt bother using them though.

The action figure itself looks really nice when it’s posed. The trouble begins in getting to a post that you want. Unlike the EVA-01 F-type where you have so many joints to move around and you have crisp revolver joints, the Lazengann didn’t have that. It had revolver joints that felt a bit awkward. The hip joints aren’t revolver joints so when they’re fresh out of the box and you try moving them, you end up assuming that they’re permanently locked in that position (which was I had thought originally) but further nudging reveals that the hip joints actually exist and that the thighs can move in four directions like a normal action figure.

Then we get to the hands. Optimus Prime was a pain in changing his hands because they were really difficult to pop off from the wrists. EVA F-Type was fine. Lazengann brought you back to the days of the first EVA Revoltechs: either you’re scared of snapping off the connecting rods or they loosen permanently that wind easily knocks the hands off.

The action figure mounts onto its stand using the tail and if you put the tail backwards, it falls over while on the stand. So you have to twist it to a sideways position to get a decent Rider-Kick-esque pose.

Overall, I’m still loving it. It’s glossy, it’s black and it looks like it can hand you your spleen just by staring you down.

Gurren Lagann

Fresh out of the box. You can even still smell the paint. Whoo!

On to the Gurren Lagann. This one’s nice too. Like the EVA F-Type, the wrists have teensie tiny revolver joints on them making the hand poses even more dramatic. I like the smoked glass effect of the shades. Makes it look like the real thing. The paint job on the gold parts is also really nice plus the decal work on the shoulder shields was spot on. The matte finish accents on the grayish parts were a good contrast to the glossy red parts.

Awesome in red and gold! Iron Man, eatcher heart out!

I just really love Gurren Lagann. I have no complaints whatsoever. My only gripe is probably with this particular stock. The revolver joints look a bit worn for a brand new unit plus the feet were mixed up (left foot in right leg and right foot in left leg) thus I had trouble turning the ankle joint but once that was fixed, everything was back in business. I also like the part where it has the shades-turned-big-ass-boomerang. That was quite awesome but the most interesting part, I think, is this:

S-Shimon?!

S-Shimon?!

If you’ve watched the series, you know that this is Shimon/Simon’s Core Drill, the key to starting Lagann, his personal Gunmen/Ganmen/Gammen. It comes with the action figure. So you can get a leather string, and use this as a pendant just like how Simon wears it around his neck. At the same time, the handle pops out and can turn into the action figure’s Giga Drill. Cool neh? I’m thinking of wearing this to work tomorrow. Heheheheh! Time to look for a “Lord Genome” to stab in the heart with a Core Drill.

All in all, they are worthy buys because one, I am a big fan of the series and two, the poses that they can have look as awesome as in the series. Can’t wait till Gurren Lagann Full Drillized, Enki, Enkido and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann come out!

Much thanks to Mark a.k.a. Coffeebugg for helping me get these babies!
