MG Black Unicorn speculations

It looks more like a mod than an actual prototype if you ask me. The new head crest parts look more like those plamodel plates used for modding kits and there's that yellowish plaster piece on top.

So this is old news, technically speaking. It has been blogged by Marvin, Ngee Khiong, SRW Hotnews and Gunota.info. I wrote about the dark mystery Unicorn that beat the crap out of the white Unicorn in a previous post.

Most news or blog posts flying around speculate that maybe this is an upcoming MG release. I will not say outright that this isn’t an MG in the making. Rather I will point out some things that tell me this isn’t going to be an actual MG release:

  • Remember those plamodel plates you can buy that modders use to add additional mass, bulk or form to their model kits? Those additional spikes on the v-fin/crest look like plamodel plates. Same with the additional spike on the forehead. The color of the plastic is distinctly lighter than the overall color of the head plastic.
  • There’s also some sort of yellowish plaster/plamodel plate added to the top of the “horn”. Prototypes do have these but it’s not as seamlessly integrated into the sample as most protos that we’ve seen. If you were to look at the Psyco Mk. II proto, the changes were made in different colors of plastic to show what changed from the Mk. I to the newer release.

I would sooner believe that this is a mod for a hobby magazine than an actual MG release. Katoki Hajime is quite the artist that if he were to create another MG ver Ka, it would not be just simply reusing the Unicorn frame and mold and adding more lines, spikes and fins. The silhouette of the mystery Gundam and the glowing golden lights may make it appear that it’s similar to the Unicorn in a lot of ways. But it could also be that it is bigger and the normal mode looks distinctly different. And I don’t recall an MG ver Ka being made without actual lineart being shown first.

Nevertheless, that does not remove the fact that mod or not, I am lookin forward to how this is going to look like. But I think we should wait for actual lineart before assuming that this will be a new MG in the works. Cheers! ^_^
